Field Guide
Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
Field Guide helps people discover places, take part in location-based experiences, and keep notes, progress, and collectibles on a Field Guide account. You can use it on the map, and through supported clients such as ChatGPT.
Who operates Field Guide
Field Guide is operated by GLXY Technologies, Inc., a Delaware corporation, file number 6202971, incorporated 30 August 2021. Product pages are on www.fieldguide.earth. The map is on map.fieldguide.earth.
- Legal entity and data controller: GLXY Technologies, Inc.
- Jurisdiction of incorporation: Delaware, United States.
- Delaware file number: 6202971.
- Address: 651 North Broad Street, Middletown, DE 19709, United States.
- Privacy and support contact: privacy@hitchhikers.earth
Processors that the running product actually calls are listed under Sharing and service providers. This page does not add providers that are not in the product.
Information we collect
Some information you give us. Some is created because you use the map, a quest, or a connected client.
You provide
- Account identifiers: username, display name, and email when the sign-in method collects it. Sign-in is on the Field Guide authorise page. Password sign-in is offered. Google sign-in is offered when that button is shown. We do not ask you to send a password to ChatGPT.
- Profile and avatar information you save, including a description shown on You.
- Location you supply for a map action, check-in, Look, Sit, photo, or place mark. A street address typed in chat is not treated as GPS.
- Quest participation: pins you collect, sits you complete, and related progress.
- Notes, photographs, and other content you ask Field Guide to save. A photograph file is uploaded to Pinata. The account record keeps the caption, place, and link.
- Support messages you send to the privacy contact.
Collected from the service when you use it
- An opaque connector token after you approve ChatGPT or another client. The connector host keeps your Field Guide account session with that token so it can carry out the tool you asked for. The client does not receive your password, and tool results do not include the account session token.
- Public wallet address, native balance, and NFT or collectible metadata when you, or a tool you invoke, ask for them.
- Technical logs on the host: IP address, user agent, and error information used to run and protect the service.
Field Guide does not run continuous background location tracking. A fix is taken when a map control, Walk, Look, Sit, or check-in needs one.
How information is used
- To sign you in and keep a Field Guide account.
- To show maps, guides, quests, and location-based check-in, Look, and Sit.
- To record progress and collectibles on that account.
- To show wallet and collectible information you ask for.
- To keep the connector and the site secure, and to refuse check-ins that are outside a pin or too imprecise.
- To answer support and privacy requests, and to fix failures.
- To meet a legal duty if one applies.
We do not sell personal data. Optional product email or analytics are not part of this site today. If either is added, this page will say so before it applies.
Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, the usual bases are: contract, for the account and the features you ask for; legitimate interests, for security and for keeping the connector working; and legal obligation, when a request or a law requires it. Membership checkout, if it is switched on, is also contract. Card numbers stay with the payment processor.
ChatGPT and other clients
You choose whether to connect Field Guide to ChatGPT. Connecting is a separate step from signing in on the website. The website sign-in does not import a ChatGPT thread, and it does not install the connector for you.
When you invoke a Field Guide tool, the connector receives the tool call and the account token ChatGPT stored after you approved access. Typical returns are a display name, map or pin information you asked for, quest progress, a confirmation that a note or check-in was saved, and a wallet summary if you asked for the wallet. ChatGPT can also open Field Guide widgets for the map, Look, Sit, and Join. Those widgets run in the chat client and may ask the device for GPS when you use Look or Sit.
Field Guide does not receive your ChatGPT conversation history. Text you type in ChatGPT is processed by OpenAI under OpenAI’s terms and privacy policy. Field Guide only sees the tool call the client sends, plus location the widget or the call includes for that action.
You can disconnect the connector in ChatGPT at any time. New tool calls then stop. Signing in again on the You page alone does not refresh a ChatGPT connector whose session has expired. Reconnect the connector and sign in on the Field Guide authorise page.
The same pattern applies if you connect another client, such as Claude. That client’s own terms cover the chat it hosts.
Account and quest infrastructure
GLXY Technologies, Inc. operates Field Guide, including accounts, notes, quest progress, and wallet reads used by the map and the connector. A quest you agree to publish is stored in the Field Guide quest catalog. This page does not claim that GLXY Technologies owns the chain, the cloud host, or every machine the service runs on.
The public website and the ChatGPT connector are hosted on Railway at the time of this page. That is the current deployment, not a promise that the host never changes.
Wallets and blockchain data
When you ask, Field Guide can read a wallet address, the native balance, and collectible or NFT metadata on your account. On the current ChatGPT connector that tool is read-only. It does not send, swap, sign, or mint. It does not return private keys, seed phrases, or signing credentials to ChatGPT.
A wallet created from the You page is a Field Guide wallet for that account. Creating it on the service can mean key material is held for that account on the service. Some flows can use a key you keep. This page does not call every Field Guide wallet non-custodial.
Blockchain records, including a public address and any transaction or mint that later happens, can be read by anyone who can see that chain. Field Guide cannot delete or rewrite a public chain record. The wallet tool today reads Solana-oriented holdings. Native balance is what the account service returns. It does not invent a full token list the service does not provide.
On You, Port your data can copy account records you choose to a Raspberry Pi running LocalFile, or to IPFS, Pinata, or ThreeFold. That copy happens only when you use it. Quest progress stays on your Field Guide account. Those destinations have their own terms. Photograph files can already be on Pinata before you use Port your data, because saving a photo uploads the file there.
Location
Location is used to centre the map on you, to measure distance to a pin, and to accept or refuse a check-in, Look, or Sit. Check-in is rejected when you are outside the pin radius, or when the reported accuracy is coarser than that radius.
For the ChatGPT connector, the latest fix from a tool call can be kept in memory on that running process so a later call in the same session can guide you. It is not stored as a permanent location diary. It is dropped when that process restarts. A successful check-in still records that the pin was collected on your account. If you save a photo or a place with coordinates, those coordinates are kept with that item.
The map loads picture tiles for the area on screen from CARTO, through a Field Guide tile address. A tile request shows which map area was loaded. It is not your Field Guide profile, and your GPS fix is not sent to CARTO as an account location.
Sharing and service providers
We share information with services that perform a specific part of Field Guide, and with a client you connect.
| Who | Why |
|---|---|
| Field Guide | Account, avatar, notes, quest progress, published quests, and wallet reads for the signed-in person. Operated by GLXY Technologies, Inc. |
| Railway | Hosts the website and the ChatGPT connector in the current deployment. The connector stores the opaque token and the account session on that host until they expire, you disconnect, or that store is replaced. |
| CARTO | Map tiles, requested through the Field Guide tile address |
| Only if you use Google sign-in when that option is shown | |
| Stripe | Only if membership checkout is switched on. Card numbers stay with Stripe. The ChatGPT plugin submission does not sell anything in chat. |
| Solana and similar public chains | Public record of addresses and of any later on-chain activity |
| OpenAI | When you use ChatGPT. OpenAI’s terms cover the conversation |
| Listing sources such as public Resident Advisor pages, and Luma when it is configured | Events shown on the map. They are not your private profile |
| Pinata | Photograph files you save. Also a destination if you choose it in Port your data. |
| IPFS, ThreeFold, or a LocalFile node | When you use Port your data on You |
Retention and deletion
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, quest progress, wallet link | While the account exists, until we erase the Field Guide records we can reach after a deletion request |
| Notes | Kept with the Field Guide account. Private text that lived only on the connector host’s file store can already be gone after that host is replaced, while an index of the note remains. We do not promise that every past note body is still readable. |
| Photographs | The account record is kept with the account. The image file is on Pinata. Removing the account record does not by itself prove Pinata has deleted the file. |
| Connector access token | 7 days, unless you disconnect sooner or the connector host store is replaced |
| Connector refresh token | 30 days, unless you disconnect sooner or the connector host store is replaced |
| Sign-in code for the connector | 10 minutes |
| Latest connector GPS fix | In memory for that running process only |
| Host logs | For operations and security. This page does not state a single number of days, because one fixed window is not published |
| Public chain records | Outside Field Guide’s ability to delete |
There is no self-serve delete button in the product today. Email privacy@hitchhikers.earth from the address on the account, or name the username, and say whether you want the connector disconnected, specific notes removed, or the account deleted. Do not send your password, private key, or recovery phrase.
We will ask you to show you control the account, revoke connector tokens we hold for it, and delete or anonymise Field Guide records we can reach. We will tell you what we cannot erase: public blockchain records, chat OpenAI still holds, and a photograph file Pinata still has if we cannot remove it. Copies in host backups can remain for a limited time after the request. That backup window is not a published number of days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export personal data we hold, and to object to certain uses. GLXY Technologies, Inc. is incorporated in Delaware. This policy does not state a United Kingdom establishment. If UK GDPR applies to you, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
To use a right, email the privacy contact. We may need to confirm the account before we act.
Security, transfers, children, and changes
The site and the connector use HTTPS. The ChatGPT connection uses OAuth with PKCE and an opaque access token. Tool results are limited to what that tool is built to return. Private keys are not part of the wallet tool’s response. No transmission or host is perfectly secure. Keep your Field Guide password to yourself, and keep recovery phrases off the chat and out of notes.
This page does not claim a certification, a named encryption product beyond HTTPS, or a promise that data stays in one country. Hosts and processors, including Railway and Pinata, can process data outside the UK. The transfer safeguard is the one that host offers. It is not separately certified here.
Field Guide is not directed at children. In the UK the age for consent to an information-society service is 13, and a higher age can apply in other countries. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under the age that applies to them. If you believe a child has sent personal data, email the privacy contact and we will delete the Field Guide records we control.
We will change this page when the product or the operator details change. The date at the top will change with it. The current version lives at https://www.fieldguide.earth/privacy.
